I was at war and the enemy was Ms. ACNE. Already passed puberty I had done everything under the sun from over-the-counter creams to prescribed medications but, Ms. Acne and I could not come to a truths.
“Would I have to carry this look through to my adult years?”
I was in my 20s when I did a complete 30-degree turn and decided to head off to study in Cuba. But, that’s a story for another day.
That journey to Cuba would bring many life changes including a cease-fire with Ms.ACNE. Within a few weeks of being there, Ms. ACNE had retreated. At that time I was so relieved and grateful I chalked it up to a change in surroundings.
I was back home on vacation and it only took me a week for everything to come crashing down.
“You can not be serious!!!!!!!”
Ms. ACNE was back and boy was she pissed. It was as if nothing had changed. Determined to enjoy my break I spent the entire vacation at the beach in hopes that my utter disappointment would be washed away by the sea.
Not sure of anything I returned to Cuba with no expectations.
“Maybe it was just a fluke “.
Like clockwork, Ms. Acne had retreated back to her dark place. There had to be more to this than just a trip across the seas. What was the link? Would I be able to figure this out?
It took me another four years to realize that my diet was the link, to be more specific, my milk intake.
I had never made the connection before because I was consuming anything dairy. I realized that cereal with milk was my go-to breakfast grail at home while overseas it was “bakes”.
I decided to test my theory, on my return home, I excluded milk from my diet and minimized my dairy intake, I have been going 20 years strong with no major breakouts. Ms. ACNE still rears her ugly head when my cycle comes to town but, she doesn’t stay for too long or leave any major damage.
Have you considered your link?
